Jackie Bavaro AGA Participates in Second Annual #GivingMonth

AGA is excited to launch our second annual Giving Month. In 2015, AGA Chairman Terry McCallister initiated an industry-wide effort designating December as a month to recognize and celebrate all that utilities do to give back to the communities they serve. This year, AGA will be #FuelingOurCommunities through the support of three organizations: Turning the Page, Martha’s Table and Comfort Cases.

This week, AGA staff will be donating books, CDs and DVDs to Turning the Page, a non-profit that links public schools, families and its community to help students receive valuable educational resources and a high-quality public education. Since 1998, the organization has engaged approximately 5,000 families, held more than 800 “Community Nights,” distributed more than 100,000 books, taken families on 75 Summer Learning Trips, and trained and supported more than 180 parents to become successful leaders and change makers in their community.

Next week, AGA staff will be on site at Martha’s Table to help with food preparation, as well as assisting families in shopping for healthy grocery options. The mission of Martha’s Table is to support stronger children, families and communities by increasing access to quality education programs, healthy food options and a stronger family support system.

The week of Dec. 19, AGA staff will be assembling and providing items for Comfort Cases, a DC non-profit that provides foster children with backpacks filled with essential needs and comfort items, including toiletries and pajamas. Since its inception, Comfort Cases has donated more than 22,000 bags to children in the foster care system across six states and Washington, D.C. The goal is to reach more than 400,000 children in the foster system nationwide. Last year, Comfort Cases donated backpacks to over 7,000 children in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia foster care systems.

AGA is proud to give our time and resources to lift up our community in the Washington, D.C. area. In December and throughout the year, please use the hashtag #FuelingOurCommunities to highlight how your organization is giving back so we can help promote your good work on our social media channels and on the True Blue Natural Gas blog.
