With a 17-year track record of public affairs and media relations success, Laura Sheehan, VP of Communications and Marketing for the American Gas Association (AGA), provides strategic direction to the association’s outreach and advocacy efforts on behalf of its 202 member companies.
Laura is a media relations expert, skilled in policy communications and issues management, community and grassroots outreach, coalition building, and policy research and counsel. Prior to joining AGA, Laura served as VP and Managing Director at FD Dittus Communications where she ran the Energy and Environment practice. This highly successful group served a diverse portfolio of clients including Shell Exploration & Production, the FutureGen Alliance, American Gas Association, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Nuclear Energy Institute and the Alliance to Save Energy amongst several others.
Before her tenure at FD Dittus, Laura served as the policy director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, where she advised individual campaigns on policy background and press opportunities and traveled the country helping congressional candidates prepare for televised debates.
Laura also served as spokesperson and communications director for Chairman John D. Dingell and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. During this time, Laura directed national democratic communication strategies for high-profile oversight and investigation hearings including Enron, Ford-Firestone and Martha Stewart among others. Additionally, Laura worked with House Democratic leadership to craft communications strategy on a number of key battles including the many iterations of energy legislation that evolved into the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Laura got her start on Capitol Hill on the Senate side where she served as press secretary for Sen. Christopher J. Dodd working on a variety of issues under the jurisdiction of Dodd’s committee assignments.
