The official logo just has the derrick without the pump jack and represents gas as well as oil. See the logo on the homepage: energy.gov. See also the official logo site: http://www.management.energy.gov/administrative_services/Description.htm Also note that the turbine on the seal, meant to represent electric power generation, could easily be gas-fired.
