Richard Meyer National Petroleum Council Prudent Development

Three weeks ago, the National Petroleum Council (NPC) has released their new report Prudent Development: Realizing the Potential of North America’s Natural Gas and Oil Resources.  AGA staff and 14 natural gas utility members were actively involved in the development of the report.

One half of the primary energy used in the residential sector is energy lost.  The NPC recommends full fuel cycle as a means to comprehensively evaluate impacts of energy choices to increase efficiency and reduce emissions.

The American Gas Association (AGA) was selected October 6th to hold the Presidency of the International Gas Union (IGU) from 2015-2018, culminating in hosting the 27th World Gas Conference (WGC2018) in Washington, D.C. in June 2018. In an Olympic-style vote with Qatar and the Republic of Korea as formidable competition, AGA won the support of the IGU membership, representing some 78 countries worldwide. The U.S. and AGA are uniquely positioned to lead and serve IGU and the global gas industry as we are strategically aligned to continue to promote the vision of natural gas as the long-term foundation of an affordable and lower carbon energy supply.

Richard Meyer Natural Gas Market Indicators

Natural gas market fundamentals appear to have eased (particularly retreating demand), which has led to relatively softer prices over the past week. Market demand, including Mexican exports, has dropped to 50 Bcf per day (and lower) on certain days in September, as moderating temperatures have resulted in reduced gas loads to power generation while dry gas production for the month of September remains strong at 62 Bcf per day, 7.0 percent above last year.

Dan Gibson Barnett Shale added $65.4 billion to regional economy in a decade

The Star-Telegram published a story today about a report by economist Ray Perryman that the Barnett Shale natural gas drilling boom has had an economic impact of $65.4 billion in North Texas since 2001. The report also say that natural gas now supports, directly and indirectly, 100,268 jobs in 24 counties.
