On November 7th and 8th, AGA hosted more than 140 guests at our 5th annual Executive Leadership Safety Summit.  This year’s event took place in Washington, D.C. and its theme was “Promoting Safety & Operational Excellence.”  Attendees heard from more than 20 speakers from both industry and government and had the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions on various safety-related issues.

Chris McGill Natural Gas Market Indicators

A cold week in early November especially for the South, Northeast and West has put the country on notice for the coming winter heating season. With that said, the general mood is very positive for reliability and pricing this winter heating season: natural gas dry production is at record levels, even though more drilling resources are being directed toward oil; storage levels entering the winter heating season will likely peak at more than 3.8 Tcf in 2011 – settling at or above record levels; and yes, while pipeline imports and LNG sendout are down year-over-year, sufficient available capacity remains to meet a weather-driven spike in demand (constraints on transportation infrastructure notwithstanding).

Dan Gibson Energy Solutions Center Wins Natural Gas Video Award

Congratulations to the Energy Solutions Center (ESC) for winning the Natural Gas Video Award. Every year the American Gas Association (AGA) gives an award recognizing video promoting natural gas. ESC did a great job with this one. You can watch the winning video at the end of this post.

Arushi Sharma Department of Energy Releases Recommendations for Shale Gas Development

The wait is over! The Department of Energy’s Shale Gas Production Subcommittee has issued a working draft of its 180-Day Report on public safety and environmental impact management for hydraulic fracturing and related activities.  The draft echoes the sentiments I’ve seen at Subcommittee meetings over the past few months, namely (1) kudos to the industry for coming together to work out solutions to actual and perceived problems, (2) direction to work harder and faster to address possible and actual safety and environmental impacts, and (3) cooperate quickly to get results.
